HolzBau 3D is an independent project from Luxembourg. The idea came out of a simple problem: anyone planning a pergola, a carport or a roof truss has to choose between expensive professional CAD software built for trade businesses, and pencil and paper. There was nothing in between — no tool with which DIY builders and small workshops could lay out a timber structure in three dimensions, check the dimensions and produce a cutting list for the timber merchant.
That is exactly the gap HolzBau 3D fills: a 3D planner that runs straight in the browser. No installation, no training, no CAD experience. Place beams, adjust dimensions, check joints, export the parts list — from the first sketch to the shopping list for the timber yard.
HolzBau 3D is developed and run by David Bohler. The project brings together two worlds: software development and hands-on work with timber construction projects. Every feature comes out of a concrete question that arises when planning a real structure — from choosing the right beam section to working out how many screws need to go into the basket.
