About us

HolzBau 3D is an independent project from Luxembourg. There are many ways to plan a pergola, a carport or a roof truss: with pencil and paper, with general-purpose 3D programs — some of them free in the browser — or with professional CAD software built for trade businesses. HolzBau 3D is narrower in scope: a planner tailored specifically to timber structures. You put beams, posts, purlins and rafters together to scale, timber joints such as halved laps and tenons are cut as real geometry, clash detection shows where two parts overlap, and the model produces the parts list, cutting plans and dimensioned workshop drawings.

HolzBau 3D is meant for DIY builders and small workshops: a 3D planner that runs straight in the browser. No installation, no training, no CAD experience. Place beams, adjust dimensions, check joints, export the parts list — from the first sketch to the shopping list for the timber yard.

How the guides are set up

The guides are meant to be checkable:

• Sources: below every guide there are links for further reading — usually in a “Sources and standards” section, depending on the topic with legal texts, Eurocodes, planning information or technical resources. Where standards are named, they are for verification only; what applies is always the edition in force at the building location.
• Guide values: dimensions, cross-sections and prices are rules of thumb for ordinary cases — not a structural design and not a binding answer on whether you need permission.
• Dates: the top of each guide shows when it was published and, for revised guides, when it was last updated.
